Internet Speed Converter

Internet Service Providers (ISPs) almost always advertise speeds in Megabits per second (Mbps), but your web browser displays download speeds in Megabytes per second (MB/s). This intentional confusion often leads users to believe their connection is slower than promised. Our converter clarifies this gap instantly.

User Guide

  • Enter the speed value from your ISP contract or speed test.
  • Select the current unit (usually Mbps or Gbps).
  • Choose your target unit to see how many actual megabytes you can download per second.
  • Click Invert to calculate what ISP speed you need for a specific download target.

Why the 8:1 Ratio?

Computers communicate in bits, but they store data in bytes. Since one byte is made of eight bits, your download speed in MB/s will always be roughly 1/8th of your advertised Mbps speed.

The Speed Formula

Mbps = MB/s * 8
MB/s = Mbps / 8
